55°F in San Diego, California
A newly minted Californian, I was on the hunt for adventure. With my cousin leading, we explored some of hidden gems of San Diego. The unique thing about our area, and perhaps the coast in general, is that the clouds are just different. They come and go, high and low, in different forms and with the slow rhythm of day and night. Each morning the sun "burns" this layer of clouds off, pushing it Eastward as the day warms. Each evening the clouds re-take their lost land and the cycle continues. This evening, those clouds were getting ready to come join us again.
Walking down the sandy cliff faces, all muddled in the same shades of brown, you find that life is there, but not without harsh reality and great struggle. The waves, winds, rains and salt all do their part to shape this mountain -- making scrub brush, and of course Torrey Pines some of the few survivors around.
Yet straight above, piercing blue skies. Below, endless coastline. Slow rolling waves taking ribbon shape as they trudge towards shore in disorderly unison, shedding just a little marbled white foam as they do. It's quiet here. So far above the surf, with waves so gentle, you hear more wind than water... but there it -- a light crashing, reminding you that you're right where you need to be.
