• Wooden Bowl in Wild Olivewood

    $ 25.00

    ~ FREE SHIPPING ON THIS ITEM ~

    The Bowl:
    First cut and drilled, then turned on a lathe by me, Jack. Sanding was completed through many grits until the piece is perfectly smooth to the touch. The grain pattern is wild and beautiful. The bowl is a mix of light tan colors with dark lines and molting throughout.  It’s a good bowl, but not perfect. See “More About…” at the bottom of the page for full details.

    The Species:
    Olive is sometimes figured with curly or wavy grain, burl, or wild grain.  Because of the fruit’s economic importance, trees aren’t felled for lumber and its scarcity makes it valuable for working. What makes this hardwood so unique is the extraordinary grain pattern of each individual piece, as well as the distinctive and inviting fragrance that it gives off. It even becomes darker, richer,  and more beautiful in color as it ages! Occasionally available from wild trees, like this lumber.

    Size: ~ 5.5″ Diameter

  • Wooden Bowl in Red Gum Euclyptus

    $ 30.00

    ~ FREE SHIPPING ON THIS ITEM ~

    The Bowl:
    One of the first two bowls I’ve made from a wild cut tree. First cut and drilled, then turned on a lathe by me, Jack. Sanding was completed through many grits until the piece is perfectly smooth to the touch. The voids in the wood were filled with crushed lapis lazuli stone (marine-blue).  The grain pattern is wild and beautiful. The bowl is a rich red-orange.  It’s a good bowl, but not perfect. See “More About…” at the bottom of the page for full details.

    The Species:
    Although red gum is native to Australia and first described being grown in Naples, Italiy, it was brought to Southern California for the purpose of railroad ties. This huge tree has a thick trunk and skinny branches with multicoloured bark, mixing grey, off-white and brown. The wood is brilliant red (hence the name red gum) and oozes red sap when cut. Colors can range from pale pink to almost black.

    Source:
    This tree was knocked down by a storm in Southern California near my house. I cut the base of the tree with a chainsaw, then cut blocks down in my workshop, with one of the nicest being used it to make this bowl.

  • Summit Gold Letter Opener in Purpleheart

    $ 29.95

    The Opener:
    This sleek Summit style opener offers a classic look in 24K gold plating.  Nice rosy gold color with reddish purpleheart handle.

    The Material:
    Sometimes called Amaranth, this colorful Latin American hardwood is tremendously popular for furniture and other designs that call for a unique splash of color. In addition to its coloration, Purpleheart has excellent strength properties, and can be used in applications where strength is important—a wood for both form and function. Freshly cut heartwood is a dull grayish/purplish brown. Upon exposure the wood becomes a deeper eggplant purple. With further age and exposure to UV light, the wood becomes a dark brown with a hint of purple with a mature, beautifully aged look.

  • Custom Cheese Knife & Bottle Stopper Set (Free $25 Gift)

    $ 159.00$ 169.00

    About the Set:
    As we all know, one must use the right tool for the job. No sense hacking away at a block of hard cheese with a flimsy knife. Accordingly, the parmesan knife in this set is short, sharp and sturdy to cut through hard cheeses with ease. Use the universal cheese knife to slice through softer cheeses and to spear the wedges onto your plate with the forked tip. The cheddar knife is shaped like a square spatula with a finely honed edge so you can lay the slices onto your crackers after slicing. Finally, the cheese fork is great for serving up cubes or slices after the knives have done their job. Hardware is made from food-grade 304 stainless steel and attached to the handles. All hardware is dishwasher safe; the handles are easily removed for this purpose.

    The Process:
    This matching cheese knife set and bottle stopper are cut from the same piece of hardwood. The handle shape was designed by me, then cut, turned, sanded and finished on a lathe in my workshop. Each piece must be repeated by hand with precision of millimeters. The hand selected piece for this set was turned on a lathe with sharp tools, then sanded through a dozen several grits of sandpaper until perfectly smooth. The wood is then finished with boiled linseed oil, friction polish and wax, being buffed to a satin gloss. All work was done by me, by hand.

    • Signed “Wood Card”
    • Care instructions sheet
